The 1947 Idaho Legislature set the framework for todays system of educational governance in Idaho. Among the 30 educational measures enacted during the session was the official establishment of a State Department of Education.

Seven miles northeast of town on Highway 20, the pavement meets the Oregon trail and the junction of the old Kelton-Boise Stage Road. The junction was a Pony Express stop known as Rattlesnake Station, formerly Mountain Home.
